Why you shouldn’t leave a charger in an outlet when not in use

It seemed harmless—until I came across a post explaining why it’s not. Even when not in use, chargers draw small amounts of power. That means higher electricity bills and unnecessary energy use. Plus, constantly plugged-in chargers wear down faster, and sudden voltage changes can lead to overheating—or worse, a fire hazard.

If you’ve got kids or pets, there’s also the risk of them playing with exposed chargers or outlets, which is a safety concern.

Most modern chargers are low-risk, sure, but why chance it? Unplugging takes two seconds and saves money, reduces risk, and—bonus—makes your partner stop nagging. So, do you leave your charger in the wall? Be honest
