Elon Musks final message after resigning from DOGE

He later posted on X, the social media platform he owns: “As my time as a Special Government Employee ends, I’m grateful for the opportunity to combat waste. The DOGE mission isn’t about a title. It’s about changing the culture.”

Reports from BBC sources suggest that Musk’s early departure may have been encouraged following his public criticism. The White House has not made an official comment, and while President Trump has not directly addressed the resignation, a message posted to his platform, Truth Social, included a cryptic image that some interpret as a response.

The DOGE program, launched with ambitious goals, was designed to implement cost-cutting reforms across federal agencies. Proposals under the initiative included consolidating departments, reducing administrative overhead, and aiming to conclude DOGE operations by July 4, 2026—symbolically aligning with Independence Day.

Musk and Trump had previously appeared united in their efforts to challenge traditional government structures, both advocating for streamlined systems and reduced bureaucracy. However, this recent development highlights a clear difference in priorities.

While Musk appears to be stepping back from direct political involvement, he emphasized that the goals of government efficiency remain important to him. “The DOGE mission will only grow stronger,” he said. “This isn’t over.”

With the Senate now preparing to review the proposed spending package, all eyes are on Capitol Hill to see how the legislation will progress—and what lasting impact Musk’s high-profile departure may have on future reform efforts.
