The Menai-Davis family experienced a tragic loss when their 6-year-old son, Hugh, passed away in September 2021 from a rare and aggressive cancer. Initially diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, Hugh fought bravely for six months and was declared cancer-free in May 2021. However, the cancer returned shortly after, and nothing could be done to save him.
Hughâs parents, Frances and Ceri, want to warn other parents about the symptoms he experienced, starting with a swollen stomach. Despite initial visits to the hospital, where they were told it was likely a virus, Hughâs condition worsened, leading to the devastating diagnosis. After undergoing chemotherapy and being cancer-free for a short time, the cancer came back, and Hugh passed away just a few months later.
His parents urge others to trust their instincts and seek medical help immediately if something seems wrong with their child. After Hughâs death, they founded the charity Itâs Never You to support families with children fighting cancer.
